MATÉRIAUX FORGET inc started out in the sawmill industry over 100 years ago in Saint-Jovite!
A Founder and Groundbreaker
In 1906, Alcide Forget founded "Forget", the family business. Alcide was a woodcutter who worked hard to build his own sawmill company. One of his sons, Claude, succeeded him in 1944 and created his own company, CLAUDE FORGET inc. In 1956, Claude decided to open his first retail store on Rue Ouimet (later Rue de Saint-Jovite), to make his products more easily accessible to local clients.
The third generation: modernization of the mill - 1960 to 1980
It was in 1960 that the CLAUDE FORGET renovation centre was established. That same year, Gilles, Jean, Denis, Normand and Claudette joined the company.
The family was committed to the growth of the business that bore their name. Year after year, expansions and alterations were undertaken to improve both the wood conversion mill and the building on Ouimet Street where clients were received. The
building was refurbished in 1965 and in 1967, CLAUDE FORGET inc. became one of the first home product centres to join the Dismat Group.

In 1970, a warehouse was added to the store to meet the growing demand for construction materials. In 1979, Claude and Bernadette retired from the business, handing over the reins to the new Claude Forget (1979) Inc. managers - Gilles, Claudette, Jean, Normand and Denis.
